Soil analysis

Before setting up a truffle farm, it’s essential to carry out an agronomic analysis of your soil and plot of land in order to understand its agronomic and physico-chemical characteristics. These will enable us to assess the feasibility of setting up a truffle farm on the land in question, and, if necessary, to select the most suitable truffle species.

If our analysis is favourable to truffle cultivation, we will support you in the creation and follow-up of your plantation.

How to analyze your soil and plot?

Step 1

Characterization of the plot and samples to be taken

Depending on the plot(s) targeted, one or more soil analyses may be required. We work with you to define the number of analysis points required, based on the characteristics of the plot, using a cartographic study based on the cadastral reference.

Step 2

Collecting and sending samples for analysis

You then take your soil sample(s) according to our protocol.
Send them by post to the address indicated.
We’ll take care of the rest!

Step 3

Report on analysis results, feedback and advice

We assess and interpret raw truffle-growing results for 3 truffle species – Tuber melanosporum – Tuber aestivum – Tuber magnatum.
We provide you with our conclusions and advice in a feedback meeting.

Soil sampling protocol

  • Define the analysis point on site.
  • Define a 10m x 20m rectangle around the analysis bridge:
    • Sample 8 points around the analysis point in addition to the analysis point: Remove the upper part of the soil to a depth of about 5 cm.
    • Remove the soil from the first 15 cm of depth depth
  • Disaggregate and mix the 9 soil samples to make a single sample
  • Place the soil sample in a resealable plastic bag.
  • Label the sample

Do not remove stones, as sieve rejection is taken into account in the analysis.

Number of soil samples to be taken

  • For a site with a potential planting area of<1 Ha and a slope < 10%.
    • A soil sample is sufficient.

  • For a site with a potential planting area of > 1 Ha and slope> 10%
    • Several soil samples are required, depending on the characteristics of the site: homogeneity or heterogeneity of soil textures, limestone content, slopes and inclines, splitting up of several different plots…
In the event of heterogeneity of texture, structure or limestone content, 1 soil sample per different zone identified should be analyzed.
